Tips To Ease De-cluttering Your Home

Over the years, homeowners accumulate a lot of unnecessary items. You will come to a point and realise that these items are taking up much more space than necessary. However, not many people know how best to go about the de-cluttering process. As such, you may find yourself starting to de-clutter then give up halfway through because you are not sure anymore of what to get rid of or keep. The best way to de-clutter your home is to have a set plan. The first thing is to hire a skip bin. You should then go through the de-cluttering process step by step to establish what items are worth holding on to and what items are no longer of use to you, whether they are in good working condition or not. Here are some of the tips that you can use to ease de-cluttering of your residence.

Sort the different items that are in storage

When embarking on the de-cluttering process, the first thing to do is sort through your items. Making individual piles of things you want to get rid of and items you want to keep gives you a good idea on whether you are de-cluttering efficiently or holding on to unnecessary items. However, the sorting process is not simply about selecting items randomly. There are three main piles that you should have. These piles are as follows:

  • The Keep Pile: Of your three sorting piles, the keep pile should have the least items. Before putting any items in the keep pile, you need to justify the reason why it should remain on your premises.
  • The Donate Pile: This pile should be made of items that are still in good or working condition, but you do not make use of anymore. They could be toys your children have outgrown, appliances that you stopped using after upgrading and more. As the name suggests, the items in the donate pile could go to friends or be taken to a charity.
  • The Trash Pile: This pile should be made of items that are no longer functional yet you have held onto them either for sentimental reasons or have been putting off fixing them. Instead of having them take up premium storage space, you should get rid of them.

Dispose of your items

Once you have sorted the separate piles, you should then go through your trash pile to ensure that all the items you are eliminating can safely go into your skip hire. Take note not to throw items such as batteries, medications and old electronics into your skip. Instead, keep these aside and make arrangements with your skip provider for separate collection.
