Two Mistakes People Make When They Embark on Decluttering Projects

Here are some mistakes people make when they embark on decluttering projects.

They wait until the end of the project to book the rubbish removal service

Some people make the error of waiting until they've created several big piles of decluttered objects before they contact a rubbish removal company and ask them to take it all away. It is much better, in most cases, for people to get their de-cluttered rubbish removed periodically whilst they're de-cluttering.

There are a couple of reasons for this. The first is that these filled bags may impede a person's efforts to declutter the remainder of their unwanted possessions. They may, for example, find themselves tripping over these bags when carrying decluttered items out of a room, or having to move a mountain of them out of the way so they can get into and continue decluttering another room.

The second reason is that if a person has access to these bags after they've filled them, they might be unable to resist rooting through them and deciding to keep items that they really shouldn't. This could result in them not being quite as satisfied with their project's results as they could have been.

In contrast, if a person has a rubbish removal company pick up their rubbish every couple of days, their home will remain easy to navigate during their project and they'll experience less temptation to keep things because their disposed-of items will be taken away before they have time to reconsider their decision to get rid of them.

They use the same rubbish bags for their refuse as they do for their donation piles

The other mistake people make is not using different-coloured rubbish bags for their refuse than they do for their piles of decluttered items that they want to donate. This can lead to two issues. Firstly, they may accidentally hand the rubbish removal employee a bag of donated items, in which case those objects, which are still in usable condition, would go to waste in the landfill. Likewise, they could accidentally give their local op shops bags of rubbish instead of functional items.

Secondly, it might make separating the bags into their two piles harder, as the person might forget which bags contain which items and may then have to open them and look inside before putting them into the correct pile. This would waste the person's time. By using different-coloured bags for their refuse and the items they'll be donating, they'll be less likely to mix them up and experience all of these issues.
